How to Use Paint 3D to Make Amazing 3D Art

If you're lacking creative ideas for a more complicated project, you can work with the prebuilt 3D models available in the Remix 3D panel. You can also download stickers from the community, which you can apply to your model for decoration. When you apply a sticker, it automatically wraps itself around the 3D object, while any paint you apply sticks perfectly to the edges of your creation.

Generally, the first step in the 3D process is to create a model, or what is usually referred to as a mesh. By default, most meshes are a slate gray color, or can be viewed as a wireframe. 3D modeling software is used to create these objects. The next important step in the process is to add textures and materials to the object to create the visual appearance on its surface with a 3D painting software. While many programs can do both of these tasks in the same application, Substance 3D Painter is the industry leader in texture painting, allowing you to texture a model in real-time.

Substance 3D Painter is a 3D painting software that allows users to texture and add materials directly to 3D meshes in real-time. In comparison, Substance 3D Designer is primarily a material authoring software that generates textures from procedural patterns inside node-based graphs. So, Designer is an alternative to creating textures and materials, which you can apply to models inside Painter.

In order to get the perfect stroke, the program lets you quickly switch between different paintbrushes. As such, Microsoft Paint 3D works perfectly on tablets, where you end up working with a smaller screen, but have more control over navigation. The software adapts well to different devices, which makes it an ideal choice for beginners.

Check out our tutorial on how to join the Windows 10 Insider Program if the ability to play with Paint 3D has you pining for Insider membership. Once your PC is up and running with a Windows 10 Insider build, you can download Paint 3D Preview from the Windows Store.

Painting a 3D model can be tricky if you're using complicated software, but Procreate has always had a reputation for being easy to understand and user-friendly, and its feature for painting 3D models is no different. With the ability to draw, paint, and modify textures and lighting, you can truly bring your 3D models to life. Want to know how? Keep reading.

Procreate is over a decade old, but in case you're not familiar with the digital art software, Procreate is an app for iPad that uses raster graphics for painting and sketching. In 2021, Procreate released a feature that allows users to import and paint 3D models. The app, however, cannot create 3D models.

To import your own 3D model, make sure you're on the Procreate Gallery page and tap Import in the top right corner. Find the location of the file you want to import, which must be an OBJ or USDZ file, and tap it to open. The file will immediately be imported to Procreate's painting page, and you can begin working on it right away.

However, if you want to halve your work time and paint a whole texture set at once, you can select the entire mesh by holding the modify icon (the empty round-cornered square between the brush size and opacity toolbar on the left) and tapping on either mesh on the 3D object. In doing this, you select every mesh within the texture set.

You can also paint through a mesh by toggling the Paint through mesh option on under 3D in the Actions menu (the spanner icon next to Gallery in the toolbar). This function is helpful if there is an object blocking the mesh you want to paint, so you don't have to keep toggling Show layer on and off.

Since you are painting a 3D object that emulates reality, the roughness and metallic layers are there to bring life to the object through texture and sheen. Think about the object and how it would act in real life; is it made of smooth plastic, or was it carved from wood? How would it reflect in various lighting and environmental settings?

While it's perfectly fine to draw directly onto the object in 3D mode, it can be challenging when you want to add small details, such as a signature or detailed pictures. The 3D mode might warp the brush, or you might not get the same precision you would have painting in 2D. That's where Show 2D Texture comes in handy.

As you can see, painting a 3D model with Procreate is a simple and easy process. The interface is user-friendly, and there are potentially limitless colors, brushes, and 3D models for you to use during the process. The only downside is that you can't create a 3D model from scratch, but when it comes to bringing one to life, Procreate has got you covered.

PaintActivate the Paint button to enter the paint mode. This will change your mouse into a brush in the Real-time view and allow you to paint your texture by holding the left mouse button.

FlowThe flow slider controls the speed at which the paint is applied. It gives you the ability to build up paint gradually, with each stroke, until you get the desired color shade.

At the same time you can export your models in .obj format for FREE with such limitations: 4000 triangles from the paint room and you can export textures with resolution up to 512*512 without watermarks or in higher resolutions with watermarks. But you cannot use them for commercial purposes.

Microsoft published a preview version of Paint 3D in the Windows Store, free for Windows Insiders to download, install and test out. It requires the Windows 10 Creators Update (Build 14800 and greater).

On a secondary question Sergey. How risky (security & privacy point of view) is having Sideloading apps enabled all the time. Is it only risky if I download and install a malicious app MYSELF or, can a malicious website, 3rd party etc. download a malicious app to my PC without my knowledge?

KeyShot 11 introduces the new 3D Paint feature that allows you to very easily paint and stamp textures on the surface of your 3D models. Today, we'll break down the capabilities 3D Paint provides to control the effects through the Brush Shape and the Brush Color.

3D Paint is a KeyShot texture tool that allows you to apply textures with an adjustable brush or stamp. You can use this tool to paint weathered appearances, layer textures, apply smudges, add score marks, and much more. There's a new demo scene in KeyShot you can use for reference. After you download and install KeyShot, click the 3DPaint_Barrel scene in the Demo Scene tab of the KeyShot Welcome Window. Ok, let's get into it.

With your 3D Paint texture set, you'll see the settings with options to change both the Brush Color and Brush Shape. There are a few methods you can leverage both options to create unique and customizable effects when painting objects in your scenes.
